Outcomes and Perils of Laminectomy in the Treatment of Degenerative Lumbar Spinal Stenosis

Bauwens Thijs, 2023
The incidence of low back pain has been a persistent issue for many years, affecting a significant portion of the global population. Sedentary lifestyle, obesity, poor posture, aging population, occupational hazards, lack of physical fitness, weak core muscles... it is often challenging to pinpoint a single cause for the increase in patients with low back pain. This master's thesis specifically focuses on degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis, aiming to gain insight into the outcomes and perils of its surgical treatment, called laminectomy. This study includes 493 patients and retrospectively examines the performed laminectomies at UZGent between 2011 and 2021.
